Stevenson

Colour Art by Cathy Stevenson is located in the Blue Mountains. The artist in her early 20’s was enrolled at Sydney University and completed some courses in Australian Literature. Discovering the history of authors and poetry in Australia was a strong influence and her creative process began after learning about “An Imaginary Life” by David Malouf. The author throughout his novel gave the reader a deeper understanding of “the need for people to imaginatively possess the place where they live – to truly understand and accept it”.

The artist was inspired by this novel and embarked on her own journey of self-discovery and acceptance. Over the years, the artist entered the world of journalism and searched for answers. The artist was passionate about change and became a lawyer. Influenced by emotions, her visual arts have a lengthy history. It was not until in her later years, the artist continued a narrative providing a language of colours. Whilst the artist remains a practising lawyer in the Blue Mountains, she built a studio a couple of years ago. The view of the studio overlooks the city of Sydney. Reminding the artist of where it all began.

My choice of abstract art and colours evoked many feelings of joy and hope.
